[Slideshow shows Mossie and Sean singing ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ one night in Cavan]
Sean admired Queen … especially Freddie Mercury, for his talent and showmanship. I think it’s fair to say that Mercury was one of his musical heroes, along with the more obvious ones such as Marley and Cobain (all three now dead). Queen were probably more ‘mainstream’ than most of the musicians he liked, but Sean didn’t care about impressing anyone with his taste. Sean cared about enjoying himself.
‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ was the Queen song that Sean listened to most. It’s in his YouTube ‘favourites’, and he downloaded the sound file and often played it … he loved its energy and optimism. I see it as one of his anthems; it sums up his irrepressible love of life and of partying with his friends.
Don’t stop me now
I’m having such a good time
I’m having a ball
Don’t stop me now
If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call
And don’t stop me now (cause I’m having a good time)
Don’t stop me now (yes I’m having a good time)
I don’t want to stop at all.
I love Freddie too. Such thrillingness.
I expect you know about his Parsi background.
Hi Cymbeline. Only vaguely … I know his surname was Bulsara. Will check it out.
I watched part of the Wasps-Toulouse match earlier. At the end I was thinking about Sean being with me at the start of the Heineken Cup group stages but not the finish, and then the PA at the Wasps ground started playing ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’.
I remember takin them pictures i had paulines camera that nite as i had forgotten mine…i was sitting in an armchair looking up at the two boys singing to each other and taking turns in singing certain parts of the song..the picture with sean holding his hand over his mouth and mossie pointing to him was seans solo…i loved listening to him sing..although living together and listening to sean sing first thing in the morning was not my idea of a good morning but i grew to like it and sometimes sean and i would sing together but no one ever knew that
Hi Clio … they’re good pics, and may be the last ones of Sean, so I’m very glad you took them. They show a side of him that isn’t seen in many pictures. He did love to sing.
‘sometimes sean and i would sing together but no one ever knew that’ brings tears to my eyes. So sad that those days are gone.
I hope you’re doing OK, and that we’ll be seeing you soon.
tears seem to be coming from my eyes a lot today….ive taken to singing a lot now even though i wouldnt be as talented as Sean i can hold a note as he would say laughing…I’m thinking of you and pauline and susie always x
Thanks, Clio … we’re thinking of you too.
You must be musical, as you were good on the piano. I’m glad to hear that you’re singing. I’m now in a ballad group (again) … practice tonight. Good fun. I want to write some songs about Sean if I can.
